Smarter automations start with better awareness of your connected devices. We’re excited to announce that Fing now integrates with Home Assistant, bringing the power of Fing’s network intelligence into one of the world’s most popular open-source smart home platforms.

With this new integration, your Fing-connected home can now work in perfect sync with Home Assistant automations — enabling your lights, appliances, and routines to respond to who’s actually home (and who’s not). Whether you’re optimizing energy use, improving comfort, or strengthening digital security, this integration gives you a new level of smart home awareness.

What is Home Assistant

Home Assistant is a widely used, open-source home automation platform that brings all your smart devices together under one roof. It supports thousands of connected products and services — from lights, cameras, and sensors to voice assistants — and lets you create powerful automations without relying on the cloud.

With Home Assistant, users can control everything through a single dashboard, automate actions based on conditions like time, presence, or device activity, and keep all data locally for privacy and speed. It’s built by a vibrant global community and can run on almost any hardware, from a small Raspberry Pi to a full home server.

What the Fing Home Assistant integration does

The new Fing integration allows Home Assistant to use device presence data detected by Fing — so your smart home can react instantly to what’s happening on your network.

By continuously monitoring connected devices, Fing provides real-time updates on whether a smartphone, tablet, or other device is online or offline.

Home Assistant can now use that information to enhance your automations and routines, such as:

  • Turning lights or appliances on when your phone connects to the network.
  • Activating a robot vacuum when all family devices have been offline for a certain time.
  • Adjusting home security or energy-saving modes based on who’s home — automatically.

The result: more accurate presence detection and smarter, more responsive automations.

How the integration works

This integration leverages the Fing Local API provided by your Fing monitoring unit to securely connect Home Assistant with the device information collected on your network.

Once connected, any device on a network monitored by Fing Agent, Fingbox or Fing Desktop can be made available inside Home Assistant.

To get started, you’ll just need:

  • A Fing Agent, Fingbox or Fing Desktop with the Local API enabled
  • A free Fing account
  • The IP address, port, and API key of your Fing Agent

Then simply add the integration to your Home Assistant instance through the “Add Integration” button on the Home Assistant Fing integration page.

Why it matters

This integration marks an exciting milestone for users who love both Fing’s powerful network insights and Home Assistant’s flexible automation capabilities. By combining the two, you get a home that understands presence, connectivity, and context — and responds intelligently.

Whether it’s automating lights, optimizing power use, or simplifying daily routines, Fing + Home Assistant gives you the awareness and control to make your smart home truly smart.
